California is a state in the Pacific Region of the United States. With 39.5 million residents across a whole area of about 163,696 square miles (423,970 km2), California is the most populous U.S. country and the third-largest by area, and is also the world's thirty-fourth most populous subnational entity, and is the most populated subnational entity in North America. The country capital is Sacramento. The Greater Los Angeles Area and the San Francisco Bay Area are the nation's second- and fifth-most populous urban regions, with 18.7 million and 9.7 million residents respectively. Los Angeles is California's most populous city, and the country's second-most populous, after New York City. California also has the nation's most populous county, Los Angeles County, and its greatest county by area, San Bernardino County. The City and County of San Francisco is both the country's 2d most densely populated major city after New York City and the fifth most densely populated county, in the back of only four of the 5 New York City boroughs.

California's economy, with a gross state product of $3.0 trillion, is the largest sub-national financial system in the world. If it were a country, California would be the fifth-largest economy in the world (larger than the United Kingdom, France, or India), and the 37th-most populous as of 2020. The Greater Los Angeles Area and the San Francisco Bay Area are the nation's second- and third-largest city economies ($1.3 trillion and $1.0 trillion respectively as of 2020), after the New York metropolitan area ($2.0 trillion). The San Francisco Bay Area PSA had the nation's highest gross home product per capita in 2018 ($106,757) among large predominant statistical areas, and is home to four of the world's ten biggest companies by market capitalization and 4 of the world's ten richest people.
California culture is considered a world trendsetter in popular culture, communication, information, innovation, environmentalism, economics, politics, and entertainment. As a result of the state's variety and migration, California integrates foods, languages, and traditions from other areas across the united states of america and around the globe. It is considered the beginning of the American film industry, the hippie counterculture, barbecue, fast food, seaside and car culture, the Internet, and the personal computer, amongst others. The San Francisco Bay Area and the Greater Los Angeles Area are widely seen as facilities of the global technology and leisure industries, respectively. California's economy is very diverse: 58% of it is based on finance, government, actual estate services, technology, and professional, scientific, and technical business services. Although it bills for only 1.5% of the state's economy, California's agriculture industry has the easiest output of any U.S. state.

California shares a border with Oregon to the north, Nevada and Arizona to the east, and the Mexican state of Baja California to the south. The state's diverse geography stages from the Pacific Coast in the west to the Sierra Nevada mountain range in the east, and from the redwood and Douglas fir forests in the northwest to the Mojave Desert in the southeast. The Central Valley, a major agricultural area, dominates the state's center. Although California is established for its warm Mediterranean climate, the large dimension of the state results in climates that fluctuate from moist temperate rainforest in the north to arid desert in the interior, as well as snowy alpine in the mountains. Over time, drought and wildfires have come to be more frequent.
What is now California was first settled by means of various Native Californian tribes before being explored through a number of European colonizers during the sixteenth and 17th centuries. The Spanish Empire then claimed and colonized it. In 1804 it was protected in Alta California province, within the Viceroyalty of New Spain. The area grew to be a part of Mexico in 1821 following its successful battle for independence but was ceded to the United States in 1848 after the Mexican–American War. The western element of Alta California was then organized and admitted as the thirty first state on September 9, 1850. The California Gold Rush starting in 1848 led to dramatic social and demographic changes, with large-scale emigration from the east and overseas with an accompanying economic boom.

California has more cultural variety than most places. especially Los Angeles. It has a population that represents nearly every nation you can assume of.
People are not judgemental, aren’t always speakme about what others are doing, etc..in other words, not small city mentality. People tend to mind their very own business.
Hollywood is NOT California. That is an industry that exists here, and so people suppose that L.A. is all Hollywood. It’s not. Hollywood is it’s own world.
The ocean and the mountains…from top to bottom, one of the most stunning places to live. When I travel, I feel lucky I live here.
Native californians are not the humans who give California a bad name, such as “flaky’, “crazy”, and “stupid”. The human beings who flock here for a new/better life are the ones who, now not always, but often provide California that label, because they have moved for a freer way of life.
California could be it’s very own country. It’s so different from any other state. Politically,and geographically . We are blessed, however we are over crowded.
California does not have that “cafe since of community”, strolling towns where humans sit and hang out, who have regarded each other for ever. This is the worst phase of it..it’s so large, and so new, it doesn’t have the roots that some other places have.
This is important. There are solely 4 Mediterranean climates on this planet. Three of them are in Spain, Italy and parts of Greece. The solely other one is Southern California. Thats it. Why do you think so many humans move here?
So, really, if you don’t like it, we always ask politely, why don’t you move?
And due to the fact of this, it’s expensive. Which is why many people move. People also pass because they can’t find that neighborhood feeling, but that’s alot harder to locate anywhere these days.
There is a lot of creativity in the arts, music, theatre, and it’s growing everyday.
The site visitors is horrible and is ruining the city..bad transportation planning.
Yes, we have earthquakes. Many people move away after a massive one, and then can’t afford to come back. It’s popular for a reason. No region is perfect.
I’m off to the beach now, in the middle of November. Weather things my friends. To those who have lived here and don’t like it, appropriate luck wherever you are. There are many high-quality places to live in this world. I’m simply answering the question!
